This comprehensive and systematic art lessons program was designed for
anyone
interested in fine arts as a hobby, such as drawing and painting.
Also for those
considering work or post-secondary studies in fine art, graphic design,
architecture,
industrial design, animation / cartooning, story-boarding, and any other
visual art
where drawing is required. A working knowledge of perspective is
essential in all
of these industries. Your artistic confidence and skills will systematically
build
with every lesson, as each class begins where the last class finished off.
You will
learn : |

One
and Two Point Perspective: Most drawings are structured
on one of these two
basic principles.
All lessons will build from here. |

Perspective
Measurements: Simple measurements that determine size
relationships
between various
elements in a drawing ( including space ), quickly and easily in
perspective.
You'll never have to estimate for hours again! |

Ellipses:
Ellipses (circles in perspective) are essential to know and understand
in all
drawing. Ellipses
are everywhere. From any wheel, to a clock or a glass of water. How
well an ellipse
is drawn, is always a quick give away of the artist's artistic skill level. |

Auxiliary
Vanishing Points: Most surfaces (planes) that we
draw are parallel to the
ground and each other.
We use auxiliary vanishing points for drawing the other non-
parallel surfaces.
These surfaces include rooftops, stairs, box lids or any other surface
that is on an incline.
These inclined surfaces are also everywhere. |

Three
Point Perspective: Used to draw extreme up or down views.
Applied for
dramatic effect, especially
in animation / cartooning and story-boarding. There isn't
an action or dramatic
animated program that doesn't use three point perspective often. |

Composition:
In every drawing we create, we compose a view of what we want
the
viewer of our drawing
to see. Understanding the "rules" of composition will help us
greatly with constructing
an effective and visually pleasing drawing. |

Structural
Drawing: Every object in your drawing has structure, and
understanding
that structure in
perspective will greatly enhance your ability to draw the object
quickly, accurately
and confidently. Structural drawing skills are especially essential
to have in architecture,
animation and industrial design. |

Forms
In Nature: Even clouds and rocks have structure.
Knowing the "perspective"
of a tree will give
you the ability to easily draw the tree from any angle or viewpoint
you choose.
Your clouds will no longer look flat and will have depth and conviction. |

Archways
And Roof Tops: Entrances or passages under an arch again
are every-
where. We will
also explore many different types of roof tops. Knowing how to
correctly draw these
intersecting surfaces is of course essential in drawing architecture. |

Drawing
From A Plan: By using a floor type plan and a side view,
we can draw a
place or object accurately
in three-dimensional perspective. These "technical
drawings" capture
the geometric features of a site, building, product or component
and serve many purposes
for architects, engineers and planners. These drawings can
be seen in front of
construction sites and new housing sales offices. |

Reflections:
Whether the reflection is from a mirror, metal, ice or water, knowing
how to draw the reflection
will save you countless hours of frustration. How can you
paint landscapes without
reflected clouds, mountains or trees in a stream or lake? |

Shadows:
Of course, shadows are everywhere,... but most people avoid drawing
shadows because they
don't know how to. Adding technically correct shadows to your
drawing gives it immediate
credibility and life. A simple portrait usually has shadows. |

Spiral
Staircase: This is a great portfolio piece. A precisely
drawn spiral staircase
immediately shows
your artistic abilities to a prospective employer or art school. |

Architectural
Interiors and Exteriors: We will draw room interiors,
and building exteriors. We'll draw at two actual locations ( very
accessible in Toronto ) of a great architectural interior, and an exciting
exterior landscape ( drawn from the comfort of
indoors ). These
are all great highlights in a portfolio. |
|
. |
|
Through
simple perspective principles, we'll also draw a car, plane, antique camera
and
phone, and many other ( complex ) objects easily. We'll understand
how the
viewer
of your drawing plays an important part in how you will execute your drawing.
You
will learn essential skills like applying "line quality" and all the rest
you should
know,
in lessons too numerous to mention!
Happy
drawing, and I hope to see you in class. |
